Delegates of Michigan State Univ. and Nagasaki Univ. visit Dongtan

Delegates of Michigan State University (MSU) and Nagasaki University (NU) visited Hallym University Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital to discuss ways to create tri-university international exchanges with Hallym University on July 11, 2014.



Two delegates from Michigan State University, Dr. Reza Nassiri, associate dean of Global Health, and Mr. Sung Soo Chung, assistant director of the institute of International Health of Michigan State University, and Dr. Isao Shimokawa, dean of School of Medicine at Nagasaki University attended the meeting and took a hospital tour to take a first-hand look at HUMC’s cutting-edge equipment and modern facilities.



After the hospital tour, a presentation of Hallym University Medical Center and Hallym University by Dr. Jae-Hyuk Shin, chief of department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the hospital, were followed. Officials at three universities shared opinions on future collaboration.



Established in 1855, Michigan State University is known for providing excellent training program for international students. A research based university with 42 affiliate teaching hospitals, ranks in the 1st in toxicology, 4th in pharmacology and 6th in health medicine in U.S.


Originally founded in 1857 by a Dutch naval surgeon Dr. Pompe van Meerdervoort, Nagasaki University is known as the first and oldest western-style medical school in Japan. The university now has 9,000 students including some 300 international students from Asia, Africa and other parts of the world.
