The International Operations Team of Hallym University Medical Center interviewed Dr. Samir C. Dwidmuthe about his fellowship at HUMC. Dr. Dwidmuthe is an Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at J.N.Medical Center in India. He got a training at Dr. Yon Sik Yoo’s team in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital in April, 2011.



Q1) How did you join the Fellowship Program at Hallym University Medical Center, and get to know your mentor at Hallym?
A) I got to know about the fellowship program at Hallym University from my colleague, Dr. Nagraj Shetty. He had been at Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital for arthroscopy fellowship.


Q2) Main purposes and the field of your fellowship training
A) The purpose of my program was studying advanced shoulder arthroscopy surgery. I was very interested in sports injury and arthroscopy.


Q3) Were you satisfied with medical expertise and communication skills of the Hallym faculty?
A) I was pleased with the warm welcome I got in Chuncheon Hospital. I worked there with Prof. Yon Sik Yoo. I was pleased with the amount and quality of work performed at Sacred Heart Hospital, Chuncheon. I was deeply touched by the hospitality at Hallym.
There was no problem in communicating with Prof. Yon Sik Yoo, and a nurse of his team, Ms. Sung Min Lee, greatly helped me in arranging my travel, visa and accommodation in South Korea.


Q4) How have you / are your going to put your training experience at Hallym back to your career at your institution?
A) I was planning to apply my knowledge gained in South Korea here in my university hospital. We have taken a step in that direction by setting up a Sports injury and Arthroscopy clinic at our hospital in June 2011.


Q5) Throughout your training at Hallym, have you found its strengths which would be attractive for potential patients from your country?
1. State of the art infrastructure, latest equipment.
2. Highly qualified medical personals.
3. Good documentation
4. Persistent focus on improvement.


Q6) Based on your experience at Hallym which has been in hot pursuit of globalization, please give us your thoughtful advice for our endeavors.
A) I was pleased with the way Hallym University is providing state of the art medical treatment to patients and at the same time providing training opportunity for Doctors for other nations. The University where I am currently working is also having similar vision and I future I would love to see collaboration between us in the field of medical education.

A) I got a wonderful experience at Hallym, much more than I had expected before vising Hallym University. I am really thankful to Prof. Yon Sik Yoo. He made me feel like a family at Hallym. He took lot of efforts in imparting knowledge and skills at Hallym. I am thankful to Prof. Sang-Soo Lee for his great help at Hallym. I would like to revisit Hallym University in future for sharpening my skills at arthroscopy.
