No.2754 Date2011-01-14 Hit 30629

The Medical Aid Team of Hallym University Medical Center(HUMC) visited Takeo, Cambodia, with the Welfare and Education Start(WE Start) Movement for medical aid from December 17 to 24, 2010. During their 8-day visit, the Hallym crew provided free medical services to kids of low-income families in Cambodia.

Led by Dr. Kwang-Nam Kim of pediatrics, the team consisted of three specialists of pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and family medicine, two nurses of pediatrics and gynecology, a social worker, a pharmacist, and an administrative official.
During their stay in Cambodia, almost 600 patients including 240 children were treated and some of them were able to get surgeries with the help of WE Start Center in Cambodia. At the end of the stay, Hallym donated to the Cambodian Community all leftover medications such as iron supplements, vitamins, nutrients, and blood sugar testing machines.

Dr. Hae-Ran Lee, President of HUMC, said, “Hallym has always been in the forefront of welfare programs to best serve as a global contributor. We will keep working on them to give more helping hands to patients all over the world.”

‘WE Start Movement’ is a global organization established in 2004 by media companies including the Joongang Ilbo, one of major Korean dailies, and Non-Governmental Organizations(NGOs) such as the Community Chest of Korea, and the Korea Welfare Foundation. It aims at helping underprivileged kids to start on their own by providing them with welfare services and education.
