HUMC to train Iraqi emergency medical staff from Erbil

Hallym University Medical Center (HUMC) starts a two-week program named 'A Training Course on Emergency Center Management' for eight Iraqi medical staff from May 26, 2008 to June 5, 2008.

The Iraqi medical staff consisting of four doctors and four nurses from Rizgari Hospital Arbil, Iraq, will participate in this training program which includes with lectures and clinical practices for an effective operation of the emergency center to be conducted by experts and professors from the departments of emergency medicine of five hospitals of HUMC.

In December, 2007, HUMC was designated by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) as a medical training institution for the project of 'Establishment of an Emergency Center in Arbil, Iraq' on training medical staff and dispatch experts.

There is a growing need for emergency treatment of emergency patients in Iraq because of war and terrors such as car bombings. The KOICA has decided to establish an emergency center at the size of 74 patient-beds with medical facilities of emergency department and a burn center to provide medical services. Besides to operate the emergency center effectively, the KOICA invites medical staff to Korea and dispatch medical experts to Iraq for training.

As a part of 'A Training Course on Emergency Center Management', HUMC successfully completed an eight-week program 'A Training Course on Burn Center Management' which started in November, 2007 and three-week program 'A Training Course on Mobile Clinic Team Management' in April, 2008, is devoted itself to one of the world-renowned medical training institutions and also focusing on strengthening the international cooperative ties between Korea and Iraq.
